Our Story

Quality Work Since 1955

Our namesake, Harold Vittitow,  learned to work on refrigeration while on submarines during WWII and later at Sealtest Dairy. By 1955, he bought his first service truck. In 1961, he hired his first employee, Calvin Davis (who stayed with the company until retiring in the early 2000’s.

Harold was never satisfied with being only a service man with a truck. He wanted to be a businessman. He eventually became a distributor for the Mohawk Cabinet Company. Along with his wife Evelyn as bookkeeper, Harold developed a growing customer base and in 1964, purchase a building on Strawberry Lane in Louisville, KY.

Harold’s son-in-law, James Lowe,  started with the company in 1967. Together, they were able to take on larger and more complex jobs. In 1980, Harold and James built a new building on Bishop Lane.

Harold Vittitow died in June of 1982, leaving a legacy for his children and grandchildren. The foundation he laid has provided employment for hundreds of employees. James Lowe still carries on the family tradition of quality work for a fair price.

The third generation , Brian and Andy Lowe, have expanded the business even further. In early 2008, our current building on Poplar Level Road was built to house Vittitow Refrigeration and the other family businesses.

Vittitow continues to strive for excellence. Hard work, integrity and high values are morals the company continues to thrive on as well as continuing a family-like work atmosphere for its employees.
